April 2012:
“The Jesus Mission” by Steven K. Scott
THOUGHTS:
Have you ever read a book that gets inside of you and stirs you up way down deep? That’s what “The Jesus Mission” by Steven K. Scott did to me. It’s a book that is not meant to be shelved among the others. My copy has secured prime real estate on my desk where I can see it daily and refer to it often.
Author, Steven K. Scott has divided “The Jesus Mission” into three parts. In part one we are challenged with connecting intimately with God “the way He wants it” not our misguided, tainted, conceived idea of what that intimacy is to look like. The author made some points that shook the religious dust from my thinking and truly connected me with God in a new and deeper way. In part two we are presented with the four missions that every believer has been given by Christ. I have picked up the challenge of walking out each of these missions as a life goal. Missions are not always easy to accomplish. Walks in the park may be, but not Missions, they require the ability to strategically layout how to accomplish each step on the mission. Finally, part 3 Steven K. Scott introduces us to Jesus in a fresh and revelatory way. I have to say that from this section, my favorite chapter was “Jesus Was Not a Socialist.” Why? Because of the current political climate and lack of response from the body of Christ today.
As stated, “The Jesus Mission” is a phenomenal book that I highly recommend that every believer read and digest. You may not agree with every statement Steven K. Scott makes, however, you cannot resist being drawn into the conversation and challenging yourself to accept the “The Jesus Mission.” Read “The Jesus Mission” and then clear off a spot on your desk, not your bookshelf, to place this book. Pick it up daily and accept the mission Christ has assigned to you. I have!
